MILANO

Here’s my journaling so far on the trip, Brennen has been keeping a journal too…

On the flight to JFK, we were having the stewardess move us to be together since we were in an exit section. There was all kinds of confusion and we wound up with no seats and had to sit apart. Brennen though got to sit in a seat by his chaperone, Mr. Watuckie.

Brennen started journaling in the SLC airport, I didn’t ask him what he was writing, but his teacher commented on how on top of it he was. In the airport I started circling places on the Milan map I already have from a trip before. I was afraid I wouldn’t have much more to see than I had already seen last year, but it looks like theres lots to still do/see. Right now were passing over Waterloo. Brennen also is a wiz at this trivia game on the little tvs in front of us. He got 9th place out of everyone playing on the airplane, of course, I didn’t even get on the board, but got a lil close!

So after I decided to beat my lil brother at this damn game, so I…didn’t, but got on the board this time!

On the JFK to Milan flight I was talking with a mom about how upset I was that bren ran off without telling me where he was going and that we didn’t get to sit together in the new York flight. And it just so happened another mom overheard and turns out she had the same tickets I did for the Milan flight and we switched and got to sit with our children. Right now we have 4 more hours to Milan, I slept the first 3 hrs, but….bren is still asleep those anti anxiety mustve worked pretty good.

As the day went along it continued the way it started. Ann (who im rooming with) and I were the last ones to get our room (it was being cleaned) we waited for two hours, they offered a smoking room but ann wasn’t okay with that which was fine I didn’t really mind either way, so we waited and they got us a bigger room complimentary since we waited. Of course “bigger”, I couldn’t tell, it did have a tv in the bedroom (two twin beds pushed together) and a tv in the bathroom. We didn’t use either.

What we ended up doing was leaving our luggage in someone elses room and we all (5 of us) went together to see the Castle, which contained Michaelangelo’s last Pieta that he did when he was 90 yrs old and never completed. I went on to the Duomo, then went back took a nap for ½ hr and had dinner with everyone.

Today, day two in Milan I got up early grabbed breakfast and went to see the Last Supper. It was amazing, we had 15 minutes with the painting, it was much bigger than I thought. And I noticed that Judas is much darker than everyone had his hands were together, everyone elses hands were open. I thought that was interesting, how he used those techniques to distinguish between the good and “bad” guy. I met up with our group at St. Ambrose and we went on to the Duomo to see the kids do mass. I got a few minutes with Brennen found out someone set the alarm wrong and they all got up at 12am to get ready for the day. Well luckily they weren’t like another room who actually went downstairs and waited for their chaperone at the same time thinking it was morning.

Brennen is having a blast. He loves it. Some kids are tired, some annoyed, some having a hard time. Brennen? He told me he loved me when he saw me and what a great time he was having. Hes handling the change really well and is just going along with everything. Hes already ran out of one disposable camera ½ way through the day, he didn’t get to take pictures on top of the Duomo. But, when I saw him the first day I gave him my camera to use since it was still morning and ive seen most of it already but he didn’t. He still have 2 more cameras, but I gave him his electronic and ill see him in two days to recharge and download it all for him.

Apparently they weren’t sure if the mass at the Duomo was going to happen or not. I hear they even contacted the Vatican to try and ensure doing the mass there. But was told it was up to the local Bishop. The alternative was Santa Marie della Grazie (where the last supper is). But the Duomo is soooooo much more impressive and the kids ended up doing mass there which I was pretty excited about since it is such a neat Cathedral. The mass was a little confusing, we didn’t all know when to stand, sit, and kneel, and it all sounded really familiar because the cathedral does latin and Italian is so close you could almost understand it all. It was beautiful, Brennen had a solo with another person, and did great. He said they messed up a lot, I couldn’t tell. And by the end everyone in the place was clapping.

Right now were in route to Florence where were late for dinner, and one of the nurses on the trip the point of contact lost her phone, so theyre also dealing with that.
